All things Floral – Chelsea Flower Show

 

 

 

London is full of flowers again! Not just because it is Spring; The Royal Horticultural Society’s Chelsea Flower Show is back all this week from May 21-25th.

Walk through the Royal Hospital Chelsea and be amazed by the sight of spectacular internationally-renowned designer show-stopping and award-winning gardens, creative and up-coming trends in gardening, and browse all sorts of horticultural products on sale. This is a colourful event that brings together nurseries, florists, plant experts, and garden designers from all over as well as 150,000 visitors. A place where you can set your eyes upon wonderful displays of all things floral, green, exotic and not.

This year, 2019, you can expect to be mesmerized by the centerpiece of the show – the Great Pavilion. It is home to specialist growers from the UK and nurseries from abroad for the week. More than 80 exhibitors, returning favorite and new, are giving it their all – creating magical displays to amaze the masses. You can even get a chance to walk-through judged garden in the Great Pavilion, designed by the British Tom Dixon and sponsored by IKEA.

Visit the Duchess of Cambridge’s garden, which she co-designed, already made popular with sneak previews released.  You can head to the exceptional Raymond Blanc’s garden dining experience for heavenly tastes.

 

Artisan Studios

For the in the moment action the Artisan Studios is a showground of live artists creating new arts and craft pieces throughout the show. You can also stick around for The Chelsea Late, long after the crowds have gone, and kick back with ‘botanical-inspired’ cocktails, listen to jazz and explore the Ranelagh Gardens.

 

Free Spin-Off events

The streets around Chelsea are also covered in gorgeous flower arrangements for all to enjoy throughout the Chelsea Flower Show week. Chelsea In Bloom, Belgravia In Bloom, and Covent Garden In Bloom are all free spin-off events which see shops, bars, and restaurants join in the fun and display floral designs with particular themes.

 

 

Another exciting accessory to the flower show week is Chelsea Fringe –runs until 26th May. Definitely worth a check, Chelsea Fringe is an indie festival with numerous intriguing and interesting activities each day in various locations around London. From walks, talks, and workshops, fun for both kids and adults, as well as record attempt to create the world’s longest daisy chain – Chelsea Fringe has something for everyone even those who care not for the main flower show itself J

Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day in London

Happy St Patrick's Day

Saint Patrick’s Day is here! A super fun day to celebrate, St Paddies, is this Sunday March 17th and is a national holiday of Northern and the Republic of Ireland – for the Christian missionary whose name was Patrick and spent his time converting the Irish to Christianity. The holiday has become a day known for notorious drinking, all things Irish and many green coloured festivities celebrated around the world.

St Patrick’s Day Comedy Carnival

Enjoy some top Irish humor and get yourself to the Comedy Carnival’s St Patrick’s Day special where you can experience laughs, laughs and more good laughs. Headlining are the exceptional Jarlath Regan and Patrick Monaham at Bar Rumba close to Leicester Square.

Price: £16.50-£24 and you will need to book as this event sells out fast!

 

Four Men and A Dog in Concert

Another exciting event for the more enthusiastic energetic crowd is live Four Men and A Dog Concert at the Irish Cultural Center, London Irish Center in Camden Square, starting at 7:30pm. This marvelous Irish act of exceptional talent of five of Irelands top musicians will perform their blend of “high energy Irish ‘trad’ with Southern rock, rap, jazz, gypsy, blues, blue grass, polka, county swing, and even salsa”. 

Don’t miss the chance to experience Cathal Hayden – fiddle, Gino Lupari – bodhran, Donal Murphy – accordion, Kevin Doherty -vocals and guitar, Gerry O’Connor – fiddles, banjo and mandolin, doing their thing on stage.

 

The Big Guinness Weekender

For a change of the usual, the Indian Restaurant Brigadiers in Mansion House has a beautiful Sunday roast going for The Big Guinness Weekender where you can catch some rugby and keep the Guinness flowing with a ‘Guinness Butler Service’ for only £20!

 

St Patrick’s Day Parade

Take part in the loud and proud St Patrick’s Day Parade which starts at Hyde Park Corner and heads down Piccadilly and Haymarket through to Trafalgar Square. Floats, processions, dancing displays, marching bands, Irish singers, musicians, performers and more. You will definitely witness a lot of green costumes and the magical flag colours of green, white, and orange face paint. If you are lucky you might even catch a glimpse of a leprechaun.

 

St Patrick’s Day Festival

Of course there is a festival! This is where the parade finishes and the fireworks and party continue. Find your way to Trafalgar Square from 12 noon to 6pm for the St Patrick’s Day Festival where you can watch performances by big Irish acts, enjoy a little shopping in the craft stalls, munch on traditional and modern Irish food, and entertain the kids with workshops and activities.

 

Irish Film Festival

You can also catch the closing night of the weekend Irish Film Festival on Sunday the 17th where you can watch films of the Irish, from 6:30pm in the Regent Street Cinema, 307 Regent St, Marylebone.

 

No one celebrates better than the Irish! London March 17th will be a day of loud, fun, exciting and “happy” vibes and activities.
