London’s peak tourist seasons may be summer and winter, but the smart visitor will know that spring is actually her prettiest season. This is when London comes to life after the dreary gray days of winter, when storefronts brighten up their paint jobs, flowers start to bloom, and you can start to meet friends for al fresco drinks.
Generally speaking ,in a London spring, it can be far less crowded than in the peak seasons. You’ll have a better chance to see things that will be busy in the summertime, and you might need to queue less for popular attractions. There will be lots for you to see and do, and a bit more daylight in which to do it.
When you come to stay at any hotel near Bayswater Station London during a London spring, we’re happy to clue you in on all of the wonderful things this time of year in our city has to offer. But we’d love to get you started with a small informational guide so you can do a little advance planning for your visit.
A Weather Eye: How to Pack for a London Spring
The weather in a London’s spring is a bit warmer and drier than the preceding winter months, but you might still encounter some drizzly days, and the heat levels aren’t quite going to be at sauna levels.
We suggest packing layerable clothing, a light and waterproof jacket, and sturdy but comfortable shoes. Sunscreen is advisable, as well as a small umbrella. A thin hat and scarf that you can keep in your coat pocket wouldn’t go amiss, either. Keep things light, but coordinating, so that you’re prepared for any sort of weather situation.
Things to Do: Floral Fancies
The Royal Botanical Gardens of Kew in Richmond–yes, Ted Lasso’s Richmond–are a stunning sight in spring. One particularly gorgeous occasion is when the cherry trees blossom between March and April. The gardens have partnered with the Royal College of Music to bring a bit of extra magic to this already glorious time of year: students from the college compose special pieces that they then play in the gardens, enhancing your experience for all of your senses.
Flower fanciers will also enjoy the Chelsea Flower Show hosted by the Royal Horticultural Society. In late May, attendees can admire intricate floral displays, enjoy gourmet food, and learn about new and exciting horticultural methods to take home to their own gardens.

Things to Do: Spring Sports
If you’re of a sportier bent, you’ll find London quite a-bustle in the spring months as well. This is when runners from all over the globe flock to one of the world’s six majors, the London Marathon. Held every April, the marathon course takes participants from Blackheath to Westminster over the course of its 26.2 miles along the Thames. It’s a great accomplishment to run it, or you can cheer on the runners as they pass by.
The famous Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race also takes place during the London spring. This centuries-old rivalry is one of the oldest sporting events in the world, and it’s a great afternoon out.
And of course, no trip to London is complete without a footy match, and the mother of all matches takes place every May in Wembley: the FA Cup Final. Brush up on your “Abide With Me” lyrical knowledge, figure out the offside rule if you don’t know it, and come experience some world-class UK football.
Getting Around: Best Options
The best thing you can do for yourself ahead of arriving in London is to download the Transport for London Go app. London has one of the most comprehensive transportation systems in the world, with Underground, Overground, bus, tram and bicycle options available. The app will help you plan journeys, manage your travel funds, check arrival times, and basically keep your movements throughout London as painless as possible.
If you’d really rather not deal with public transportation, the Uber app can always help you find a ride, whether from a black taxi, a mini-cab, or an Uber driver.
London is also a very walkable city; even if you want to stick around just in the area of your hotel, you’ll find restaurants, shops, parks, and other things to do within a short stroll.
