London Christmas Market

London’s Christmas markets are well worth visiting and not just for buying some special gifts.  A wide range of entertainment is also provided, and you can easily spend several hours at these fascinating places.

So where to go?  There are Christmas markets taking place all over London including Leicester Square, London Bridge City, and Clapham Common. Portobello Road has a very lively market where tradition meets Calypso music and steel pan bands.

By far the largest is the Hyde Park Winter Wonderland which has a huge array of pretty chalets selling gifts together with seasonal food and drink.  There is lots to do here.  Fancy some ice skating? Then head for the largest outdoor rink in the UK, which is centred around the Victorian bandstand.  Quite apart from public sessions when anyone can strap on some skates and try out their skills, there are also regular performances of Cinderella on Ice by championship level professional skaters. Book your stay at one of the budget hotels near Paddington Station Uk and have a great time exploring the best locations in London.  If you have a head for heights, then take a seat on the Giant Observation Wheel, which revolves 200 feet into the air providing stunning views across London.  Alternatively, head for the massive rollercoaster where screaming is inevitable! A much gentler experience is provided by a trip on the old fashioned carousel, complete with brightly decorated galloping horses.

Cross the Thames to the South Bank and enjoy the fun of the South Bank Centre market.  Stretching along the southern bank of the River Thames, beside the London Eye, this beautifully decorated area with its glittering trees is a delight to visit.  Enjoy a Scandinavian atmosphere, with Christmas gifts to buy that have a distinctly Scandinavian flair, likewise the food and drink.  Feeling cold – then head for the Rekorderlig pop up lodge selling mulled, spiced cider which you can drink while sitting beside a traditional fire pit.  Nordic themed entertainment can be enjoyed every day, including a group of clowns performing in the Slava’s SnowShow and an immersive ABBA: Super Troopers exhibition. If you are near to Edward Hotel Paddington, it is the best time to visit various events during Christmas.  Complete the visit with a trip to a Finnish Sauna located on top of the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Leicester Square has adopted a distinctly Continental atmosphere with its traditional market.  Over 25 stalls have been set up selling an extensive range of gifts and decorations, as well as a Belgian Spiegeltent hosting numerous festive shows such as the Black Cat Cabarat’s Parisian Circus.

One of the most stunning festive markets is in Greenwich, easily reached by ferryboat from Westminster Pier.  Virtually the entire town of Greenwich is taken over by the Christmas atmosphere with its traditional market selling festive fare and historic buildings beautifully decorated.  Then there is the adjacent Wintertime fair with lots of festive food, drink and gifts – as well as constant entertainment from acrobats and magicians. Choosing to stay in hotel next To Paddington Station will maximize your Christmas enjoyment in the city. If music is your preference, then head for the Mirror Stage where there are performances by DJ’s, bands and choirs throughout the day.  And of course, there is a fantastic ice rink where you can don your skates and try out your skills, or sit back and watch the professional ice skaters perform to stunning music.
