A Foodie’s Dream: London’s Restaurant Festival 2019 Officially Kicks Off

The whole month of October is devoted to eating out.

350 exquisite food establishments scattered over the capital take part in the London Restaurant Festival which is annually visited by over 50,000 foodies.

Restaurant nerds will rejoice – for this month marks some of the biggest in London's foodie calendar. Launched in partnership with American Express, the London Restaurant Festival 2019 will see renowned chefs from around the world cook in the capital.

With so much on, there’s no hope in squeezing it in over a weekend – it needs a whole month. The festival runs from October 1-31, at restaurants all across the capital.

Returning for its 11th year, the festival will see restaurants from all across the capital shake up their usual service, hosting dozens of special events that range from cuisine-focused tours to one-off tasting experiences.

You may also try any of the Restaurant-Hopping Tours or ​participate in Champagne Gourmet Odysseys. The mouth-watering menus extend every year offering more and more tantalizing specialties.

A new addition to the festival, One Night Only will see Prin, former chef at Michelin-starred restaurant Nahm in Bangkok, cook a ‘High Flyers’ dinner at the top of the Gherkin on the 21 October, in collaboration with London Thai restaurants som saa and Farang.

For the last 11 years, the London Restaurant Festival has hosted an annual, month-long programme celebrating the capital’s world-class food scene. Activities range from foodie tours to tasting menus, collaboration dinners, masterclasses and film nights.

This year, more than 70 events will take place across more than 250 venues, and high profile names involved include Monica Galetti, Mark Hix, Richard Corrigan, Anne-Sophie Pic and Andrew Wong.

The festival’s Ultimate Gastronomic Weekends will offer guests the opportunity to stay at top London hotels Hyatt Regency London, The Churchill and Andaz London Liverpool Street with each hotel hosting a variety of chef-led events and dining experiences including lunches hosted by Michel Roux Jr and Monica Galetti.

An LRF staple, Restaurant-Hopping Tours will see diners discover some of London’s most exciting neighbourhoods for culinary experiences, with the opportunity to enjoy a course meal at five restaurants within an area accompanied by drinks from producers such as Rémy Martin, Martin Miller’s Gin and Estrella Galicia.

If you haven’t been able to get tickets to the event you were hoping for, you can still enjoy a special dining experience by tucking into the festival menus on offer at more than 250 restaurants across London.

“We’re thrilled that London Restaurant Festival continues to offer world-renowned dining experiences – it’s a real testament to the fact London is unquestionably one of the world’s leading culinary destinations,” LRF founder, Simon Davis told the press.

He added that the festival was able to encapsulate this by distilling the very best of London into one month and the event’s new One Night Only events are really a pinnacle of how inventive London’s restaurant industry has become.

The festival has teamed up with OpenTable to offer limited edition menus, many of which offer bargain deals. If you’re looking for something in particular, experiences are divided up into themes including Amazing Spaces, London with a View, Flights and Pairing and London Legends.

Menus include three courses and a glass of fizz at Michelin-starred Marcus in The Berkeley for £55, while izakaya restaurant Kurobuta Chelsea is offering a six-plate sharing menu for £29 per person, along with complimentary sake and pork belly bao buns.

 At Hawksmoor in Spitalfields, guests can get two courses and a cocktail for £30, a relative bargain, while Club Gascon is offering a five course menu with wine pairings for each dish for £130.
